Our attorney Jaimie N. Berger interviews Professional Organizer Joseph Sarnecki, CFP, CDFA from US Financial Services, LLC about Financial Planning and Divorce.
Financial Planning and Divorce
Joseph: I am a certified financial planner with US Financial Services. Primarily we work with a lot of individuals and businesses explaining their financial planning needs. Whether it be the well-known investment management that is a piece of a financial plan. We get involved a lot with planning flow budgeting, risk management, life insurance, disability, long-term care needs, and another big component is estate plan. I got into the business for a couple of reasons. One, I have always had a passion for finance, another thing growing up, my family has always been in the public service center whether it be police officers or social workers. And I wanted to find something that combined that being there somebody in their situation. I just wanted to tie that into something that I had a passion for in finance really try to be there to help and build relationships and through their times in their lives, really become a life planner for them in addition to a financial planner
Jaimie: One of the things is that you got your designation as CDFA. I know there are lots of things after your name but, can you talk about that, why you thought that was important and what it means for the planning.
Joseph: Yes, absolutely. CDFA is a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst, so part of my practice as I said, I work with a lot of individuals and businesses, and a portion of my practice is dedicated to working with people that are either thinking about or going through or have been through divorce.
And a lot of basic principles of financial planning do apply to somebody going through a divorce, because a lot of the financial planning and life planning we do is guiding people through transitions, and this is one of the biggest transitions that somebody can be going through in their life and having that designation as a certified divorce analyst, I learned a little bit more about the details that you deal with on a regular basis as the attorney and the things that you guys need to look for. What I try to do is assist you, which we have in the past, and I can speak to you as well too whether it be a client I refer to that is going through a divorce or whether somebody that needs a prenup or any type of family law planning, everyone has had everything nice to say about you and it has always been a great experience and I thank you for that too and it has been fun. It is important to have that foundation and I thought that this was a way to really focus on a specific area of transition in peoples’ lives and be able to assist them through that.
