College Planning and Divorce

By Jamie Berger, Esq.

Putting a child through college or helping a child financially go to college may be one of the biggest investments that you make. It can also be scary, both for intact and divorced families. In this episode of Just Because Jamie gives tips on how to best navigate through this process when divorce is part of the equation.

Thank you guys for tuning in for another episode of Just Because. It is never too early to start thinking about college planning. And as a Divorce attorney, I think about that for my clients because I want to make sure that they are prepared for what is typically the largest investment that their family is going to make aside from buying a house. So you want to think about how do we navigate. Do we have savings put away? Are we equipped in the divorce process to deal with this? What are the terms in our marital settlement agreement that address college costs, and how can we best protect your children in this process? You want to make sure that you are doing what you can to make sure that your children have a wonderful college experience. But you also need to be mindful of your financial circumstances. So, my advice to you is to get in touch with the financial planner early and make that these decisions are ones that your family is making in the right way. Tune in next time. Thanks so much for joining us.
