Do I have to tell my ex exactly where we are 24/7?
Jacobs Berger, LLC Co-Founder Jamie N. Berger, an experienced attorney and masters all family law-related issues, explains the importance and the reasons why it is wise to keep your ex-spouse informed when spending time with your children.
While you certainly do not need to keep your ex-spouse advised of your daily movements in and out, you need to make sure that you have provided information to your ex-spouse with respect to generally your whereabouts. They need to know where you live unless there is any type of domestic violence restraining order that is in place that would prohibit them from having that information. And the reason why the courts want your ex to have that information is because in cases where there are children, it is important that both parents know the whereabouts of the children.
What Things Should I Inform my Ex?
It is not really about your whereabouts; it is typically related to where the children are, so you want to make sure that you are keeping your ex-spouse somewhat informed. Certainly, if you move, if you change your phone number, you want to make sure that you keep the lines of communication open because that is a very important factor when it comes to co-parenting. But you do not need to let them know every time you go out to a store or a restaurant or anything like that because that would be invasive of your privacy.
