Court Systems continue working in a virtual way in the middle of this COVID-19 situation

As these unprecedented times and processes move along, we have learned more from the court as far as what access attorneys or litigants have. The good news is the courts are moving along to give everybody access. Now, it´s not the same level of access that we used to have, we can not walk into the courtroom and speak to the judges in person, but they are doing what they can in this unprecedented and confusing situation.
Emergent Applications can still be filed
The courts have put baskets outside the courthouse so that any emergent applications can still be filed immediately; they are dropped in the emergent basket; there is core personnel to take it in, review it and take it to the right judges. Also, judges are making themselves accessible for these emergent applications by video conference, so the attorneys can still conference with the judges, although by video, to deal with these issues.
Can I still call the courthouse?
There are core personnel in the courthouse so that if you or attorneys need to call a judge’s chambers, there will be someone answering the phone. Also, many judges from different counties have created new email addresses so we can quickly email them, communication letters, and reach out to them essentially in real-time. Overall, they are flexible which is very good and very helpful in this situation, so if there´s anything that we need from the courts, even though we may not be able to get an exact answer or response right away, the courts are moving forward to try to help attorneys, and consequently you as a litigant to get the access that we need to the courts. Hopefully, as this situation moves along, we will have more resources through the courts. Every day something new is coming out.
